Ride starter: Don Johnson
One of our prettiest rides. Routes of 23, 37, 41 and 50 miles, mostly on back-roads and lightly traveled Farm to Market Roads. There are even a few hills thrown in for good measure. Stores in Field Store Community and at the Hwy. 6 crossing. Plus, there are several options for varying the route, so you can make it a different ride every time if you want to.
To get to the start, go northwest on US-290 to Hempstead. Exit on FM 1488 south into Hempstead. Turn right on Business 290 into "downtown". Go past the light at Highway 6 (McDonalds will be on your left), cross the RR tracks then turn left. Park behind the City Hall building (used to be fire station), one block off 290, 12th near Main.
