One of our prettiest rides. Routes of 23, 37, 41 and 50 miles, mostly on backroads and lightly travelled Farm to Market Roads. There are even a few hills thrown in for good measure. Stores in Field Store Community and at the Hwy. 6 crossing. Plus, there are several options for varying the route, so you can make it a different ride every time if you want to.
To get to the start, go northwest on US-290 to Hempstead. Exit on FM 1488 south into Hempstead. Turn right on Business 290 into "downtown". Go past the light at Highway 6 (McDonalds will be on your left), cross the RR tracks then turn left. Park behind the City Hall building (used to be fire station), one block off 290, 12th near Main.
This route stays west of the older Chappell Hill routes, going as far west as Brenham. This is a very pretty ride with some pretty challenging hills. Routes of 35, 43 and 48 miles. Rest stops at stores in Brenham (all routes) and Independence (43,48). To get there, take Highway 290 from Houston, go about 65 miles (12 miles past Hempstead) until you come to the flashing light at the intersection of Hwy. 290 and FM 1155. There's a sign there that says "Chappell Hill" to the right. Turn right on FM 1155 and go about 1 mile to the center of town. Turn right on Poplar. We are now parking in the empty lot on Poplar just behind the restrooms.
Assorted routes of 32, 43, 48 and 60 miles. Ride through rolling pasture land to Bernardo and Cat Springs. The long route also visits New Ulm. There are stores in Bernardo and New Ulm (no stores on short route). Alternate route goes to Bernado, Cat Spring, 949 to 36 to Sealy ("Cardiac hill loop"), about 44 miles.
To get to the start, go west on I-10 to Sealy (45 miles west of 610 loop), north on TX-36 to 2nd light, left to Abe and Irene Levine Family Park. Park on 4th Street, on the south side of the park.
Ride Starter: self-start
One of our prettiest rides. Routes of 37, 42 and 51 miles through scenic, rolling countryside. Good roads and pretty scenery, very little traffic. Short route goes to Fayetteville and back. Be sure to spend some time at the beautiful Fayetteville town square. The longer routes miss Fayetteville, but go through Frelsburg before heading back to Columbus via Zimmerscheidt Road and the Mentz Community.
To get there, go about 75 miles west on I-10 to US-90/Columbus exit, cross bridge to Courthouse Square. Park on the south side of the square.
We'll ride mostly backroads up to Richards through a largely wooded area.
Various ride options but mostly all in the 40+ miles. Shortest loop up to Richards is 42 miles but shorter ride available.
